Greening Your Financial Path With Amida

Earth Month Tips For Allocating Your Money & Greening Up Your Future

In honor of Earth Month, Amida is going to share eco-friendly ways to green up your financial path. These small acts of compassion for the earth, like investing in green companies, leave a profound impact for future generations. When we learn to allocate our finances with intention, we embody wealth energy. But first, what do we mean by allocate? At Amida Wealth we replace the word budget with allocate. This is because the word budget implies that we can’t do something. It signifies lack rather than expansion. The concept of budget starts at a young age–for example, when a child wants something for their birthday and a family member implies that it is not in the “budget”. Instead, we transform lack into intention and empowerment. This is done by shifting the word budget into the word allocate. The word itself gives us power and puts us in control!

Above all, never underestimate your financial impact. Your finances help the planet! Here are 5 Simple Ways To Green-Up Your Financial Path:

Invest in green companies:

ESG investing is a type of investment approach that takes into consideration environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors in addition to traditional financial metrics when evaluating potential investments. ESG factors refer to a broad range of issues that may impact a company’s long-term performance and sustainability. This includes climate change, human rights, labor practices, executive compensation, and board diversity. ESG investing aims to align investors’ financial goals with their values by incorporating a company’s sustainability and ethical practices into the investment decision-making process.

Here’s a closer look at the three criteria used to evaluate companies for ESG investing:

  • Environment. What kind of impact does a company have on the environment? This can include a company’s carbon footprint, toxic chemicals involved in its manufacturing processes and sustainability efforts that make up its supply chain.
  • Social. How does the company improve its social impact, both within the company and in the broader community? Social factors include everything from LGBTQ+ equality, racial diversity in both the executive suite and staff overall, and inclusion programs and hiring practices.
  • Governance. How does the company’s board and management drive positive change? Governance includes everything from issues surrounding executive pay to diversity in leadership as well as how well that leadership responds to and interacts with shareholders.

We can intentionally put filters in the way we invest. Perhaps, talk to your Advisor about ESG investing. Above all, Invest with your heart!

Support eco-friendly products and services:

Look for products and services that are environmentally friendly, such as energy-efficient appliances, organic or sustainably-produced food, and local organic clothing brands.

According to The Good Trade, the top eco-friendly clothings brands of 2023 are:

Reduce your carbon footprint:

Reduce your carbon footprint by using less energy and water, driving less, and buying fewer disposable products.

  • Be more mindful about your water usage.
  • Get a reusable grocery bag, and use reusable containers instead of disposable ones for food storage.
  • Buy in bulk: Buying in bulk can help reduce packaging waste and save money by reducing the cost per unit.
  • Switch to LED light bulbs: LED light bulbs use less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs and last much longer.
  • Use a programmable thermostat: A programmable thermostat allows you to set the temperature of your home based on when you will be there and when you will be away.
  • Use Citi Bikes and ride-shares more often.

By incorporating these strategies into your financial practices, you can contribute to a healthier planet while also making a positive impact on your own financial well-being.

Think Big & Start Small

Start your environmental efforts in the kitchen! For example, by switching to environmentally-friendly cleaning products that do not contain harmful chemicals, we can help reduce the amount of chemicals that enter our oceans. Here are some popular kitchen cleaning product brands that are known to be good for the ocean:

  • Method: Method’s cleaning products are made from natural and biodegradable ingredients, and their packaging is made from recycled materials. They have a range of kitchen cleaning products, including dish soap, all-purpose cleaners, and surface cleaners.
  • Seventh Generation: Seventh Generation’s cleaning products are made from plant-based ingredients and are free from harsh chemicals. Their packaging is also made from recycled materials.
  • Mrs. Meyer’s: Mrs. Meyer’s cleaning products are made from natural and plant-based ingredients and are free from harsh chemicals. Their packaging is also made from recycled materials.

Remember, the small changes we make today, leave a lasting impact for those we inspire along our path.
